Everything is Optional new paintings + sculptural installation by Deanna Sirlin
Opening Reception: Friday April 17, 7-10 PM

Whitespace is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings and a sculptural installation by Deanna Sirlin. Atlanta painter, Deanna Sirlin, has steadily sustained a thirty-year career as an artist. Born in Brooklyn, Sirlin studied art in New York and is well known for her distinctive large-scale paintings and installations that investigate the formal, conceptual and cultural construction of artistic representation based on a language of signs and symbols. Saturated hues and loaded brushstrokes, the elements of her paintings are geometric orbs that evoke eyes, mouths, planets and signs. Sirlin herself enjoys the narrative content of these abstract works seeking a universal language of symbols derived from cultural ephemera. Sirlin has also expanded this practice to sculpture. Using familiar motifs from her paintings that exhibit the same characteristic density of color and movement but physically move off of the canvas into our space. Sirlin`s work celebrates the history of its development. Drips and rethought contours are recorded in a multi-layered pentimento, a particular process that unites the new group of paintings and sculpture.
